Amsterdam International Anti-imperialist Colloquium “NATO Expansion and the Danger of World War III”

On June 23, in amsterdam, Netherlands, the World Anti-imperialist Platform held successfully the international colloquium of “NATO Expansion and the Danger of WW3”

The World Anti-Imperialist Platform, founded in October 2022 in Paris by anti-imperialist and revolutionary parties and organizations, has been striving to realize its three major goals: advancing the anti-imperialist struggle, waging the ideological battle, and strengthening the international communist movement.

A day before the NATO summit in The Hague, participants of the colloquium engaged in passionate discussions on the dangers of NATO expansion and the current conditions of a potential World War 3—particularly the escalating risk of war in East Asia and the Western Pacific. They also analyzed the state of the world anti-imperialist movement and explored common practical tasks for anti-imperialist forces.

Session 1 of the colloquium was held under the theme “The Danger of NATO Expansion,” and Session 2 under the theme “World War 3 and the Tasks of Anti-Imperialists.”

Each session featured presentations, discussions, and Q&A segments aligned with its respective theme. Session 1 was moderated by Eleonore Koffi, a member of the Communist Party of Great Britain (Marxist-Leninist, CPGB-ML).

Presentations in Session 1 were delivered by Aleksandar Đeni큓, Executive Secretary of the New Communist Party of Yugoslavia; Stefan Petrov, International Secretary of Bulgaria’s September 23 Movement; Joti Brar, representative of the CPGB-ML; and Dimitrios Patelis, representative of Revolutionary Unification (Greece). This was followed by a discussion session featuring Haig Mkhitarian, member of the Communist Party of Armenia; Lasha Shavdiya, representative of the Socialist Platform of Georgia; and representatives from ZANNEKINBOND. And there was a and Q&A session.

Session 2 was moderated by People’s Democracy Party(“Republic of Korea”).

Presentations were given by representatives from the Antifascist Former Resistance Fighters Netherlands; Eastern Initiative; Struggle Unity (Turkey); and Stephen Cho, organizer of the Anti-Imperialist Platform and coordinator of the Korean International Forum.

This was followed by a discussion session featuring the Baltic Platform; Kommunistische Organisation (Germany); Jozef Bossuyt, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of Belgium, and Victor Lucas of the Communist Party of the Peoples of Spain.

A concluding statement synthesizing the discussions from Sessions 1 and 2 was presented. All participants expressed their agreement with a standing ovation.

With the declaration of the close of the historic Amsterdam International Colloquium, all participants joined together in singing “The Internationale” and gathered on stage for a commemorative photo.

The following is the final statement of the colloquium.

Conclusions of the 8th International Anti-imperialist Conference Colloquium

At the international colloquium of the 8th Anti-Imperialist International Conference, co-hosted by the World Anti-Imperialist Platform and AFVN in opposition to the NATO summit in The Hague, Netherlands, there were serious and in-depth presentations and discussions.

Delegations from various countries across Europe, Asia, America, and Africa gathered to discuss the theme “NATO Expansion and the Danger of the Third World War.” They confirmed the danger posed by NATO, the imperialists’ main war machine, as it expands globally, and concluded that the peoples of the world must unite and struggle on the anti-imperialist front to crush the imperialist camp .

Having long ago transformed Latin America into a NATO base, NATO has been steadily expanding eastward, finally completing the “Pacificization of NATO” and “globalizing” itself, thereby preparing to launch the Third World War in earnest. NATO’s global expansion is due to the fact that the imperialist system is facing the worst crisis in history out of which it tries to escape by waging wars to push down and control the remaining independent states. NATO is waging proxy wars in Ukraine in Eastern Europe and throughout West Asia (the Middle East). A proxy war in East Asia is.

The US and NATO are currently focused on supporting Israel, their primary proxy state. The plan to destroy Iran is the next step in a wider strategy to destroy the anti-imperialist camp by isolating and picking off its members one by one. There is no doubt that imperialism aims to target China after Iran. Although imperialism repeatedly proclaims its complete superiority, people everywhere are learning how to confront its aggressive system.

NATO, a tool of imperialism and capitalism, was originally founded to fight communism. Today, NATO is waging war not only against socialist and anti-imperialist countries such as China, the DPRK, Russia and Iran, but also against the working and oppressed masses worldwide.

Around the world the working and oppressed people are rising up against capitalism itself. Our movement has suffered many setbacks and defeats, but fundamentally, the working masses are the only force capable of defeating imperialism and opening the road for socialist revolution.

The anti-imperialist movement is our greatest weapon. The working class must scientifically clarify its mission, organize itself against the Nato imperialist war machine, and strengthen our most powerful weapons—political organizations and mass organizations—while advancing mass movements and practical struggles.

We must utilize internal contradictions within the imperialist camp to our advantage, while always maintaining our organizational distinctness and freedom of criticism. Based on a correct understanding of the revolutionary strategy and tactics of the united front, which shines in the history of communism, the anti-imperialist camp cautions against both left-wing dogmatism and right-opening opportunism.

We once again confirm the reactionary nature of the Greek ‘Communist’ Party’s “Imperialist Pyramid” theory, which is a particularly insidious example of revisionism and opportunism . The need to expose its counterrevolutionary and pro-imperialist essence and harmful nature remains urgent and important.

  • The situation in West Asia and the world is rapidly changing. If the attack on Iran escalates further, the World Anti-imperialist Platform shall immediately issue an additional statement condemning the USA and Israel and expressing its support for Iran and the other members of the Axis of Resistance, on the basis of a scientific analysis of the situation.
  • We will oppose attempts to utilize the Palestine solidarity movement as a weapon against the broader Axis of Resistance.
  • The World Anti-imperialist Platform shall continue to actively organize and participate in international conferences and colloquia aimed at scientifically analyzing the conditions of the Third World War and formulating revolutionary strategy and tactics
  • Platform organisations will aim to organize regular days of World Anti-imperialist Struggle, monthly where possible, involving rallies and demonstrations. In addition to mass resistance movements at the national level, including strike actions against NATO and imperialism, coordinated actions and joint struggles shall also be promoted on a global scale.
  • The system of anti-imperialist and anti-NATO propaganda activities shall be strengthened and revitalized. A series of articles containing scientific analysis of the situation and revolutionary strategy shall be published and widely disseminated through the journal of the World Anti-imperialist Platform, as well as through print media, the official website, and social media platforms.
  • In order to counter imperialist propaganda and strengthen solidarity and communication among anti-imperialist forces worldwide, efforts shall be made to secure diverse channels for sharing truth and information from different regions of the world.
  • Platform organizations will create literature of various kinds to popularize the main messages of the Platform, including:
    • Working to popularize the call for a mass movement of non-cooperation with the imperialist war machine and with Zionist Israel
    • Working to spread an understanding of the connection between austerity, repression, economic crisis and war.

The participants of the 8th International Anti-imperialist Conference commit themselves to strengthening solidarity, exchange and coordination under the banner of anti-imperialism and internationalism.
