Imperialism on the threshold of World War 3, the modern world and Armenia

Haig Mkhitarian | Communist Party of Armenia

Dear comrades,

First of all, let me thank the comrades of the World Anti-imperialist Platform for organizing this conference and for the honor of extending this invitation.

By making sense of modern developments of world politics, we, the Armenian Communists, believe that the fundamental dispute between capitalism and socialism is not over.

Capitalism, which prevails today in most of the world, has not changed its essence. The capitalist states continue to protect the interests of large capital, the exploitation of the working class is intensifying. The contradictions between work and capital definitely continues to deepen. In addition, the nature of modern capitalism finds its expression to increase the fascization of imperialism, from democracy to political reaction and unprecedented militarization.

As we know, after the collapse of the Soviet Union, many former socialist countries have entered the capitalist camp and have become semi-colonial capitalist countries. Since then, global policy has become unipolar, where the main role has been played by the United States and its satellites.

In order to maintain its political and financial dominance in the world, the United States and its satellites constantly require chaos and wars in different parts of the world. Now, as we can see, Eastern Europe, the West Asia and East Asia make up three major World War Theaters.

Thus, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius stated that the war with Russia is possible and is fully real in the near future. German Chancellor Merz has said that the countries of the West have allowed Ukraine to hit Russia with long-range missiles. French President Macron offers to create a nuclear umbrella for the European Union and organizes a military intervention in Ukraine. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, first admitted that the Ukrainian war is a proxi warfare between the United States and Russia. US President Trump admitted that the reason for the war in Ukraine is Biden’s decision to expand NATO to the east.

In Europe there is a widespread renunciation of military-political neutrality. Finland and Sweden have joined NATO despite the neutrality of decades. Austria and Switzerland have joined all sanctions, including the freezing of Russian assets of $ 300 billion. The neutral Moldova held 17 military exercises with NATO. US President Trump openly threatens all those who consider abandoning the U.S. dollar.

The US struggle for global domination inevitably leads to world-scale imperialist wars. Under imperialism, governments of capitalist countries are not placed by the people, but by the oligarchs of the financial capital. The imperialist camp is using neo-Nazis in Ukraine, Zionists in Israel, and and reactionary forces in Europe.

The main point of the current situation is World War 3. An anti-imperialist front, which includes Russia, China and North Korea has formed in this confrontation. And now this front includes Iran, which is fighting against an imperialist Zionism of Israel. We too think that if the anti-imperialist  forces win this anti-imperialist conflict, imperialist forces will definitely lose, and a new large period of revolt will be marked by a significant expansion of socialist and national liberation forces.

Effective construction of an anti-imperialist front and the fight against capitalism is possible on the basis of the ideas of socialism, and based on the socialist economic system. The unresolved imperialist contradictions of the modern era require from national-patriotic and socialist-oriented strata and classes to unite in the struggle against the imperialist front. Armenian communists are convinced that the most justified choice for our country and one that is in the interests of the majority of the people is the socialist path of development. The communists of Armenia set themselves the task of supporting and actively defending the socialist path of global development in every way possible. Based on the general patterns of humanity development, Armenian communists believe that every people in every country will implement them, taking into account its own specificities and historical experience.

A description of the current economic and political situation in capitalist Armenia

Under the slogans of “independence” and “democracy,” the liberal forces ruling Armenia in the early 1990s established a market economy in the country and adopted the path of integration into the Western global capitalist system. The Bretton Woods financial and trade system created as a result of World War II, which was based on the dominance of the American dollar, led to the fact that the existence of a market economy in a particular country itself meant that the country was economically, and therefore politically, dependent on the United States. Thus, Armenia’s integration into the Western capitalist world led to Armenia becoming a semi-colony of the West. Armenia is formally independent, but in reality it is politically and economically dependent on the West. Accordingly, all the most important decisions of the Armenian authorities, both in foreign and domestic policy, are considered not from the point of view of Armenia’s own interests, but from the point of view of the interests of the West. The Armenian authorities, to the detriment of Armenia’s state and national interests, are clearly advancing and serving the interests of the West, receiving loans in the form of state debt in return.

As historical experience shows, the political interests of the West (along with Zionism and Pan-Turkism) and Armenia have always been, are, and will be in contradiction. Therefore, Armenia being under Western control does more harm than good for the majority of the country’s population. Capitalist Armenia is an economically backward country, because the West is not interested in an economically developed Armenia. The West does not invest its billions and does not provide development technologies to Armenia, as it does to other capitalist countries. Capitalist Armenia is unable to ensure its security, is constantly losing its territories, and the Armenian people are subjected to new genocides. The pro-Western policy of the Armenian authorities towards membership in the EU and NATO, the ratification of more than 70 conventions of the Council of Europe, the rejection of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh), the deterioration of Armenian-Russian relations, the establishment of relations with Turkey based on Turkish conditions… All this is just a de jure confirmation of the absence of sovereignty.

The political and socio-economic situation of the modern capitalist Republic of Armenia is characterized by a deep crisis, degradation, and decline in all spheres. The forced introduction of capitalism led to a bipolar division of society, where the wealthy minority of society was concentrated on one pole, which had power and the economy in its hands, and on the other pole, the disenfranchised overwhelming majority of the population, which has neither power nor control over the economy. The capitalization of social relations deepens social contradictions, the people’s dissatisfaction grows due to the constantly deteriorating living conditions, price increases, unemployment, growing poverty, economic crises and ongoing emigration. The introduction of Western standards, globalist values and ideas alien to the Armenian people, which discredit the past and lead to the self-destruction of the state, continues in the education system, public consciousness and culture.

The majority of the population of Armenia is deprived of a decent standard of living and social security. The Armenian authorities, with their anti-democratic foreign and domestic policies, constantly violate the country’s laws and Constitution, turning into a criminal government. The anti-Armenian authorities of Armenia are conducting a repressive policy in the country, constantly lying, constantly falsifying elections, constantly violating people’s democratic rights, the irresponsibility of the Armenian authorities threatens the individual and public security of citizens. The majority of the country’s population is becoming aware that the prospects for the “development” of capitalist Armenia with Western loans are extremely limited, and the continuation of such a policy is fraught with the loss of statehood and national catastrophe. The Communist Party of Armenia is against the market economy, against capitalism, and against Armenia being a semi-colony of the West.

And finally, dear comrades, let me announce that the Communist Party of Armenia condemns the military aggression by Israel, with the help of the Imperialist camp, on Armenia’s neighbor and friend Iran. We call on the people of Armenia to prepare for the upcoming elections in 2026 and organize a popular electoral alliance. This victory will allow my country to fully join the camp of anti-imperialist resistance.
