The member of PDP explained about the Gwangju People’s Uprising and the national democratic martyrs that took place in May 1980 against the Chun Doo-hwan fascist regime. The new cemetery is the burial site of those who died during the Gwangju People’s Uprising and the old cemetery is the burial site of those who continued and died in struggle for independence, democracy, and reunification after  Gwangju People’s Uprising. She explained that the Gwangju People’s Uprising, which was an armed uprising, was the highest form of anti-fascism democratization struggle to end military fascist rule and establish a new democratic government.

In particular, she emphasized that the Gwangju People’s Uprising opened a new chapter in the anti-U.S. movement, and that through the uprising, people had recognized clearly the hypocrisy of the U.S. blocking the democratization of South Korean society and supporting the fascist military dictatorship.

All participants observed a silent tribute in front of the May 18th Memorial Monument and recalled the will of the patriotic martyrs. The representative of PDP laid flowers on behalf of all participants.

At the end, they took a picture with the banner of “Inherit the spirit of the Gwangju People’s Uprising! Overthrow Yoon Suk-yeol! Withdraw the USFK!” and affirmed their solidarity and unity under the banner of anti-imperialism.
