Hope Bird began to perform in France, first at Marseille

On April 10th, HopeBird – an artistic and musical troupe to sing for the reunification of Korea and for promoting anti-imperialist struggle all over the world, performed at the port of Marseille. 

The World Anti-imperialist Platform organized the European tour of Hope Bird. It started in Belgrade, Serbia which bombed by NATO 25 years ago, and continue to Bruxelles (Belgium), London (UK) and several cities in France. 

The emcee of the event emphasized the root cause of all wars in the world is the imperialist force, so Hope Bird is touring for promoting the anti-imperialist struggle in Europe. 

Hope Bird sang the songs “Hope Bird”, “Trail”, “Let the morning shine” and the several songs for the 1980 Gwangju Uprising – Song of May 1,2,3. 

The emcee explained that “Song of May 2”’s melody is from the french song “Qui a Tue Grand Maman? (We All Killed Grand’Ma)”, written and composed by Michel Polnareff.

To introduce the next performance, “For Korean people, Gwangju Uprising is tragic but proud history fought against the military fascism in 1980”, he added. 

After the performance, they sang “Under the mountains and streams”. 

The representative of Hope Bird, remarked “To fight against imperialism is only the way to achieve true freedom and peace we have desired. 

They continued to sing “Do you hear the people sing?”, “Fly high, dove”, “El Pueblo Unido Jamás Será Vencido”, “Listen Yankee”, “Trail”, “Bella Ciao” and “the International”.

The speaker of the World Anti-imperialist Platform said “World War 3, which began with the war in Ukraine in 2022 and deepened with the war in Palestine and the Middle East in 2023, is about to be in full swing with the outbreak of the war in East Asia and the expansion of the war in Eastern Europe.”

“Today, we can confirm that the hope for French revolution lies here.”, “We are confident that the heroic, life-threatening struggle of the French workers and people, who inherited the brilliant history of the resistance struggle during World War II, is for the progressive development of France and also contributes to the strengthening of the world anti-imperialist united front. The World Anti-imperialist Platform will move forward together in solid solidarity with the French workers and people.”, she added. 

Participants chanted “Stop imperialist war driving!”, “Withdraw all foreign US military bases!” and “Workers and people united, will never be defeated!”
