KENYAN ARMY AND POLICE VIOLENTLY ATTACK COMMUNISTS AND ANTI-IMPERIALIST ACTIVISTS
In Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, on May 12, 2026, Kenyan communists and members of an international delegation of the World Anti-Imperialist Platform were detained by the Kenyan army and police during a protest march against the “Africa–France Summit.”
The World Anti-Imperialist Platform and the Communist Marxist Party of Kenya were co-organizers of the 10th International Anti-Imperialist Conference and the International Anti-Imperialist Colloquium, held from May 9 to 10. From May 11, the delegation also participated in a counter-summit to the “Africa–France Summit,” organized by PASA.
The protest march and demonstrations held on May 12 proceeded peacefully, with slogans opposing the summit and the arrival of French President Emmanuel Macron. However, Kenyan military and police forces used tear gas and forcibly detained members of the international delegation. Police also confiscated journalists’ cameras and deleted photographs taken at the scene.
The NKPJ strongly condemns the arrests, intimidation, and repression carried out by the Kenyan state against domestic and international comrades who participated in demonstrations against French imperialism and the counter-summit held in Nairobi regarding the so-called “Africa–France Summit.”
These arrests reveal the true nature of William Ruto’s regime as a neocolonial and comprador administration acting in the interests of imperialist powers and against the democratic rights of the people. Instead of protecting the right to political organization and protest, the regime criminalizes anti-imperialist solidarity, while at the same time welcoming foreign exploiters and representatives of monopoly capital with a red carpet.
Among those arrested are prominent anti-imperialist and revolutionary activists, intellectuals, and organizers from different parts of the world, who came to express solidarity with the fighting popular masses of Africa in their struggle against imperialism, militarization, and neocolonial domination.

Their only “crime” is standing with oppressed peoples. Their only “crime” is rejecting imperialist domination. Their only “crime” is the message that Africa is not for sale.
The arrest of international delegates further demonstrates the growing panic within imperialist and comprador circles. They fear the unity of revolutionary and progressive forces across the African continent. They fear international solidarity against imperialism. They fear a politically conscious and organized people.
We remind the regime of William Ruto that repression has never defeated the struggle of the people. Colonial camps did not destroy liberation movements, nor will fascist laws and police terror silence the masses today.
The NKPJ emphasizes that African independence has no real meaning unless it is linked to the complete liberation of the continent from imperialism and neocolonialism.
The NKPJ expresses full solidarity with all arrested comrades and demands:
The immediate and unconditional release of all detainees.
An end to police harassment, repression, and persecution of activists, organizers, and progressive movements.
The immediate termination of all imperialist military, political, and economic agreements imposed on Kenya and the African continent.
Respect for the democratic rights of all participants in anti-imperialist and Pan-African gatherings.

We demand the immediate release of all comrades arrested by the Kenyan police for participating in the demonstration against French imperialism and the Africa Forward Summit in Nairobi!
The pro-imperialist government of William Ruto, which is trying to keep Kenya bound to imperialist interests against the will of the Kenyan people, is facing a massive resistance movement against neocolonialism and imperialism—forces that plunder the wealth of the Kenyan people and the peoples of Africa.
The comprador bourgeoisie’s terror in the face of the movements sweeping Africa, freeing its countries one by one from imperialist occupation, is evident in the scale of repression it unleashes against members of the Kenyan vanguard. This history includes violence, arrests, abductions, disappearances and murders of Kenyan comrades.
In line with these practices, the Ruto regime warmly welcomes foreign neo-colonialists while violently suppressing anti-imperialist comrades — both local and foreign — who gathered in Nairobi in solidarity with the African peoples’ struggle against imperialism, militarism and colonialism.
The arrests of comrades who participated in the Pan-African Summit Against Imperialism and the 10th Congress of the World Anti-Imperialist Platform in Nairobi follow the arrest of five members of the student movement on 11 May.

Struggle Unity Platform (Mücadele Birliği Platformu): Release Our Comrades Immediately!
Imperialist aggression continues unabated. In Kenya, a brutal attack was launched against the anti-imperialist counter-summit organized by the peoples of Africa in opposition to the France-Africa imperialist summit (“Africa Forward”), held under the leadership of the World Anti-Imperialist Platform.
At noon on May 12, officials of Kenya’s fascist Ruto government attacked demonstrators, including the delegation of the World Anti-Imperialist Platform. Members of the World Anti-Imperialist Platform delegation, representatives of PASAI, leaders and members of the Communist Party Marxist Kenya, were violently detained. Among the 13 people taken into custody were Joti Brar, representative of the Communist Party of Great Britain (CPGB-ML, Britain); Dimitrios Patelis, founding member of the Revolutionary Theory Group (Greece); Former President and the Deputy Director of the International Department of the People’s Democracy Party (‘Republic of Korea’); members of the PASAI international delegation; and members of the Communist Party Marxist Kenya (CPMK).
This attack, carried out through the puppet fascist Ruto government of the imperialists, is proof of how the imperialist masters are losing sleep in the face of the peoples’ uprising. It demonstrates their fear of the activities of the World Anti-Imperialist Platform. Ultimately, it is an admission of their own weakness.
The Ruto regime is not only signing a “non-NATO ally” agreement with the United States and submitting to the IMF economic system, but is also pursuing military and economic cooperation with French imperialism. In line with the needs of imperialism, Kenya is being turned into a counter-revolutionary base in Africa through this fascist government. Kenya is becoming one of the frontline countries in the global civil war.
But in vain! It is imperialism that is collapsing today. The repression they impose is the result of their desperation. And every act of repression, every aggression, gives rise to and strengthens resistance. The resistance of Kenya’s workers and laborers, Kenya’s communists, and the peoples of Africa will grow and emerge stronger from this attack. Fascism will be destroyed, and the imperialists will be completely expelled from Africa by the blows of the working masses.
Immediately Release Our Arrested Comrades!
Freedom for the World Anti-Imperialist Platform Delegation!
